Shandong 山东Shāndōng
The historic coast: Changyu in Yantai since 1892, Lafite in Penglai, and a Qingdao estate that publishes tours.
Industrial wine in China starts here. The Changyu museum dates the company to 1892, when Zhang Bishi funded a winery on Zhifu Bay in Yantai. The museum at 56 Dama Road publishes hours and a visitor-centre telephone. It is the straightforward public visit in the province.
The coast is not Ningxia. Decanter’s note on Changyu Noble Dragon N188 2022, a Best in Show in 2025, says so in the blend itself: 75% Cabernet Gernischt and 25% Cabernet Sauvignon, from Yantai rather than from the inland desert. Cabernet Gernischt is the grape that wine is built on.
Two Penglai properties share the Qiu Shan valley. Domaine de Long Dai, Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite), publishes a reservation-only visit for a maximum of 12 people, with a tasting of Long Dai, Hu Yue and Xiao Mu Lan. Treaty Port Vineyards, at Mulangou, is the neighbour. Jim Boyce has timed the walk between them at about ten minutes. Treaty Port’s site is the place to check wine, whisky and rooms. An older Decanter China directory lists the cuvées; the prices on that page are a decade old and are not repeated here.
Further south, Château Nine Peaks at Laixi, Qingdao, publishes tours by appointment and asks for two days’ notice. Jancis Robinson singled out its Cabernet Sauvignon 2011 in a blind tasting, and noted St-Émilion connections. She has also written that Gérard Colin, previously at Grace Vineyard, worked on Lafite’s Shandong project.
Getting there
Yantai

Penglai
Long Dai, in Qiu Shan Valley, Daxindian, requires a reservation, caps a group at 12, and publishes hours of 9:00–12:00 and 14:00–17:00 every day, with closures for Lunar New Year and some other occasions. Book by email at info@longdai.cn, by the WeChat account named on the visit page, or by the form. Treaty Port is in Mulangou, the next village. Jim Boyce timed the walk between them at about ten minutes. Check treatyport.com for what is open now.
Qingdao
Château Nine Peaks is at Shankou Mountain, Yuanshang Town, Laixi, not in the city centre. The tour page asks for an appointment between 9:00 and 17:00, two days ahead, and four days ahead on national holidays. The published desk is +86 532 8640 6767.

A provincial visiting season is not published here. Long Dai’s page notes Lunar New Year closures and some other occasions, without listing every date.
